Timbaland - Shock Value Review
Timbaland. Unless you live under a rock, his name is everywhere in mainstream music, often pre-eminent to the actual artist he produced.
To be honest, I was pretty impressed with his work on Justin Timberlake’s Futuresexx/Lovesounds, so I made the mistake of assuming his own album, “(Timbaland presents) Shock Value” would be of similair calibur.
I deserve to be shot in the nostrils.
Straight of the bat, we’re presented with the douchey gangster ‘Oh, Timbaland’.
“If ah want you dead it’s done
Ah can make dat happen because,
Nigga ma bread is long.”
Negro, my bread is long. Come on. Okay, ‘my cock is long’ maybe, but bread? I don’t get it, was he just improvising lines in the studio and saw a piece of bread?
A black person enjoying bread.
Let’s check out some more negrolicious lyrics:
“Come and Get Me” which features Tony Yayo and Fiddee is nothing special. Just another typical money, gangster’s and hoe’s rap song, featuring lines like:
“I’m rich, I can pay to have you six feet deep - niggah”.
Awesome, you buy your favourite artists album, and they repay you with death threats.
Ronald Mcdonald made the mistake of listening to Timbaland’s Shock Value.
I could go on the whole review with just lyrics, but that’s not a very balanced review is it? After all, there’s plenty of other shitty aspects of the album too.
In attempt to flaunt his versatility, Timbaland’s made an album that progresses between lots of genres, including rock.
Sweet, I thought when I saw ‘Throw it on Me’ in the tracklist, I love The Hives - It was dissapointing to find the song’s only 2 minutes, and most of it is Timbaland rapping anyway. The Hives deadset could’ve just mailed Timb a riff and several word’s from Sweden and all Timb had left to do was make a lame song out of it.
The only fairly good song on the album is One Republic’s “Apologize”. That’s all it is - no Timbaland involved. You might think, ‘Surely Timbo added some heavy beats’ or something - Nope, already there in the original.
Oh I forgot about his shitty constant “eh’s” through the song. It pisses me off how Timbaland can put his name on the wrong side of ‘ft.’ with a band and the song instantly becomes a successful single.

You may have also heard about the controversy about Timbaland ripping off musician Janne Sunni’s ‘Acid Jazzed Evening’ without credit, and sampling it into Nelly Furtado’s “Do It”. Well it’s not really a controversy, It’s just a plain undeniable theft. The video can be seen here:

What’s even worse is his constant denial, stating the case as “ridiculous“. Since then, he’s being in legal proceedings about it, with defending statements such as:
“It makes me laugh. The part I don’t understand, the dude is trying to act like I went to his house and took it from his computer. I don’t know him from a can of paint. I’m 15 years deep. That’s how you attack a king? You attack moi?”
A self-proclaimed king. A world-proclaimed douchebag. There’s a difference between sampling a song with permission, and stealing someone’s work without giving them a cent.
“Music is boring right now. I’m too innovative for the world”.
Good lord Timbaland. I hate you so, so much.

However, I do lose respect for him every time I read a quote from his mouth that says how unfathomably awesome he thinks he is. It leaves little room for his listeners to praise him. I also lose respect for him because of the obvious theft on behalf of Nelly Furtado’s “Do It” and his adding more instrumentals to the OneRepublic-written “Apologize” and passing it off as his own.
